The New Black Vanguard
The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion is closing on the 22nd of January. If you're able to visit Saatchi Gallery, it'll be worth your while. Curated by American writer and critic Antwaun Sargent and organised by Aperture, the exhibition features 15 international black photographers, each contributing to a new vision of the black figure and reimagining representation in art and fashion.
As part of the exhibition, Sargent presents New Gazes II, a space dedicated to works created in partnership with Burberry.
From Tyler Mitchell and Campbell Addy to Nadine Ijewere and Micaiah Carter, the exhibition is a celebration of black creativity in-front and behind the camera, as the featured works include black stylists, models, make-up artists and creative directors.
Sargent says: “This exhibition is an exploration of this generation’s black image makers who are bringing fresh perspective to photography. Image by image, they have created a loose global network around their art that powerfully centres identity, community and desire. The artists in this show profoundly reanimate the possibilities of contemporary photography."
