MFW: HUI SS24

The Miao population are one of the oldest among the 56 known ethnic groups in China, making it the fifth largest in demographic order. They live in the mountainous regions of the South, particularly in the provinces of Guinzhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei and Guangxi. Here a tribe known as the 4 seals was established in the mists of time, due to the ancient legend of the queen who managed to save the identity of her people by hiding, among the embroidery of her clothes, the symbols of status, history and culture imprinted on imperial seals.

Hui Zhou Zhao, the lady of Chinese fashion who loves Italy and shows from time in Milan, she dedicates her SS 2024 collection to the quiet strength of women capable of winning battles without waging wars and transform everyday gestures into works of art. Miao women are famous for their extremely colourful clothing and decorated with precious embroideries that mothers teach their daughters to do from an early age.

Hence the idea of fashion with prints and embroideries that emphasize graphics and geometric designs, fluid floral designs. The shapes are modern and perfectly in line with Western taste while retaining the perfect oriental grace of the mandarin collar, the kimono cut, and the sophisticated pijama-tuxedo. There are many shorts to wear with the kimono, hidden tulle skirts under the men's blazer, practical dungarees pulled away from the body and small seductive bustiers over large shirtovers. Denim is deliberately covered by seal embroidery, to celebrate the meeting between East and West which has always been Hui Zhao's goal. The fabrics shown are silk twill, chiffon, poplin, cotton drill, tulle and jacquard. The palette softens with tones like jade green, vanilla yellow, stucco white and peony pink combined with vigorous reds and toned blues.
