MFW: RAVE REVIEW SS24

"We're exploring craftsmanship in a naïve way. Distorted patchwork, raw edges that we burned and hand-embroidered swans. Craft gone wrong, basically."

Known for their saturated colour combinations and eclectic print clashes, Rave Review's Spring/Summer 2024 collection sees an evolution of the design duo's aesthetics, introducing a more settled palette of monochrome white looks, bleached flowers, distressed denim, brown tartans, and black leather, finding inspiration in rustic-ness, kitschy romancy, punk and grunge.

The duo, Josephine Bergqvist and Livia Schuck, decided to embrace their hoarding and have created a collection of what they already had.

"As we've bought most of our secondhand materials from sorting facilities in Sweden and Scotland, we've accumulated a large collection over the years. We've stored all the fabrics and home textiles we didn't use in previous seasons, resulting in an impressive inventory. For SS24, it was a necessary but also fun challenge of mostly using these fabrics, with only minimal deadstock materials sourced anew. As a designer, the limits of available resources often inspire more creativity than having boundless freedom."

New variations of their iconic blanket coat is presented for SS24, as well as flared asymmetric dresses and a few short spiral cut summer dresses and ruffled blouses. An overall detail coming back throughout the collection is the patchwork cuts and various looks made entirely from white bed linen and lace curtains.

"We love to include a mix of both the perfectly white bed linen, but also the older more yellow ones, – it shows how time sets a mark which we find so beautiful and nostalgic. What we ultimately aim for is to twist and turn history into something new."
