NYFW: Chan Chit Lo SS24

Every season of Chan Chit Lo is derived from Venus Lo's observation of and admiration for 'real' jobs and working people. After an 18-month hiatus during which Venus and her partner Jazzy Li gave birth to a baby boy, Chan Chit Lo returns with Cherished Beginnings – a new collection dedicated to and inspired by new parenthood and all the blood, tear, and sweat it takes to be a parent.

Cherished Beginnings is principally composed of black and beige color tones seamlessly blended together, representing the night and day of care taking for the newborn. Evolving the flower motif, many of the pieces are adorned with crocheted plum blossoms that double duty as pockets and bags. Moving shadows of flowers and plants influence the graphics on the knitwear. Drawing details typically found in aprons, sleepwear, and baby clothes, the collection aims to blur the line between casual and dressed up, utilitarian and ornamental, and between the state of at home and at work.

All of this is imbued with the same sense of subtlety and emotion, essential to any Chan Chit Lo piece. Imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete, her unique craft shows through each piece and conveys a feeling of love towards new life. A baby’s growth is measured first in days, then months, and years, just as a piece of garment is built through threads, stitches, and panels. A new beginning, to be forever cherished.
