THE WAY I SEE IT,... - Kristyan Sarkis

In THE WAY I SEE IT,... the fourth edition of the POST/NO/BILLS series at Stedelijk Museum, Kristyan Sarkis is able to express the imaginative power of Arabic writing. The Lebanese type designer and lettering artist is one of the most exciting talents in his field at the moment. Expressive and powerful, Sarkis has collaborated with poet Hind Eljadid and makes the words come to life through Arabic typography.

The artist seeks contemporary forms that give Arabic script and its users a contemporary voice and power. Sarkis interprets a lyrical text about water in fluid lines, recalling the sound and force of a waterfall. He translates a poem about the smothering feeling of an abusive relationship into a composition of letters sitting uncomfortably close together. Sarkis draws inspiration from nature, current events and Arabic typographic cultural heritage.

The series POST/NO/BILLS presents the most recent graphic design projects that respond to what is currently happening in society and in the discipline.

THE WAY I SEE IT,... at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, is open until the 5th November 2023.
