PFW: BLUEMARBLE FW24
In their fifth year, BLUEMARBLE play up their designs that define the brand and explore a new territory. Kidlat Tahimik’s film, Perfumed Nightmare, the story of a young Jeepney driver from the Philippines fascinated by the American space program in the 1960s, is its a point of reference. The curiosity that brings him to Paris and beyond felt like a parallel for an ongoing wanderlust while overlapping with the designers Filipino heritage.
Funky yet versatile we witness a expirimentation with fabrics, colours and silhouettes. BLUEMARBLE’s wardrobe includes unique codes, with sport and craft twists. Effortless yet thought-out, with a space-age spin to everyday chic. Graphics span the mythological Filipino bakunawa dragon to radiant, cosmic displays. Oversized wool coats are designed in powerful hues of red, yellow and blue, along with garment-dyed, all-weather parkas. Slick metallic bombers are space-inspired, with coated nylon and quilted embroidery.
The name BLUEMARBLE reminds us that we occupy a single planet – a reality check that also underscores one of the most fundamental things we share as humans. We can travel just about anywhere on this earth, but imagine if we could take a journey into the unknown? Thinking of Apollo 11’s historic mission and the lunar landing plaque, this collection begins with naïve notions of peace and took on a funkier feel, fueled by optimism and possibility for the future. Even if no one is dressing for space just yet, BLUEMARBLE could certainly dream up our own trip.
